Are you looking for a perfect place to spend a weekend? Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, may be a great option for you. A Baltic destination is always a good choice on warm days.

The city is often compared to Venice, a rich cultural city located on the water that emanates a specific elegance. Blooming parks, spectacular architecture, active nightlife, and much more, Stockholm is a dream destination located on the archipelago with the same name that consists of 30,000 islands and rocks.

Here is how you can spend 48 hours in the capital of Sweden.

Spend your morning at Kungsträdgården

Kungsträdgården is a place full of sweet fragrance and color. Yes, Stockholm has cherry trees, which simply adds an extra touch of elegance to the city. Awake a little after sunrise and serve your coffee under the blooming tree branches. The morning is the perfect time to enjoy such a view in an intimate way and feel the whole blooming bouquet of flowers.

Make sure to book your flight in the spring season, for a more colorful experience.

Feel like a royal at the Stockholm’s Royal Palace (Kungliga Slottet)

Did anyone say royal? The Kungliga Slottet is the home of the Swedish monarch, namely King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. It’s an enormous building, projected in the shape of a square and surrounded by glittering waterways. The Royal Palace was originally completed in 1760 as a Roman palace designed in a baroque style. Today, the Royal Residence offers visitors the opportunity to explore the Royal Apartments, Tre Kronor Museum and the Royal Treasury.

Learn about the Swedish Parliament (Sveriges Riksdag)

The building is located in front of the Royal Palace, on the Helgeandsholmen Island. Sweden is recognized as the fourth country in the world with most female parliamentarians, 44.7%. To discover the interior of the building, I recommend you take part in a guided tour, which lasts for an hour. You can even take part in parliamentary sessions.

The parliament building has a royal and elegant façade at the same time. You should totally take a selfie in front of it.

Take a walk on the Strandvagen Boulevard

Don’t miss the strolls along the Strandvagen Boulevard, which dates back to the 19th century. The boulevard is known as the most luxurious avenue in Stockholm. Take a tour of the shops, then I recommend to savor a coffee on the terrace overlooking the Nybroviken Bay.

Get lost among photos at the Fotografiska Museum

The Fotografiska Museum is the ideal place for art lovers. Located in the Gamla Stan district, the museum is one of the few places where you can admire contemporary photography.

Discover the Stockholm’s Old Town

The Stockholm’s Old Town is located in the Gamla Stan district and is one of the Stockholm’s main meeting points. Once you arrive here, just check the Grillska Huset Konditori, the café where you will find the best sandwiches in town.

Stockholm is more than a perfect destination for a city break, it’s a place where you will get lost among the spectacular buildings, the blooming parks and the hundreds of islands on which the city is located.
